A Poem to Understand “By” and “Buy”
I walked by the shop on Market Street,
The smell of pie was warm and sweet.
A sign hung by the window high:
“Come in today, just buy a pie!”
I stood by the door, my mouth agape,
The cherry pie was taking shape.
The baker smiled and said, “Don’t cry—
You’ll feel much better if you buy.”
So I went inside with coins in hand,
The best deal by far in all the land.
I gave my money, oh my oh my—
It feels so good when you buy a pie!
Let’s break it down so you are clear:
Buy means purchase, like snacks or gear.
By means next to or close in space,
Or who did something in that place.
