Mark and Lisa were on patrol when an emergency call came in.
“There’s a bomb in the train station!” a panicked voice had said over the radio. “We need the bomb squad!”
Mark and Lisa were close to the train station. They didn’t have time to wait for the bomb squad.
Mark drove fast through the city streets. Sirens wailing so the cars moved out of the way.
Lisa checked her equipment. “Do we have anything to help us with the bomb?” she asked.
“We have a small toolkit,” Mark said. “I don’t know if it’s enough, but we have to try”
When they arrived at the train station, people were running outside scared.
“Where’s the bomb?” Mark asked a security guard.
“Inside, near the main platform,” the guard replied. “Please, hurry!”
Mark and Lisa ran inside. They saw the bomb immediately. It was inside a metal suitcase. The suitcase was locked.
The timer showed five minutes.
Lisa grabbed her radio. “We need backup now!” she said. “The bomb will explode in five minutes!”
“Backup’s on the way,” the radio answered. “But you need to act fast.”
Mark opened the suitcase carefully.
Inside, he saw three wires: red, blue, and green. The timer kept blinking. Then he saw the note: “Red is danger, Green is safe, but Blue is a mystery.”
Lisa read the note. “What do we do?” She whispered.
Mark took a deep breath. He’d only seen bombs in movies before. But this was real. He couldn’t make a mistake.
Mark stared at the blinking red numbers. His hands were shaking. Sweat dripped down his face. He took a deep breath. He had to stay calm.
Mark had been a police officer for over ten years. never had he faced a situation like this before. The timer on the bomb had reached 30 seconds. Time was running out!
Mark looked at Lisa, she was just as nervous. “We can do this,” she said. “We just have to cut the right wire.”
Mark nodded. “Which one?” He said, looking at the wires. Repeating the message over and over. “Red is danger, Green is safe, but Blue is a mystery.”
“What does it mean?” Lisa asked.
“I don’t know,” Mark said. “But we have to decide now!”
Mark thought fast. Red is danger. That meant he shouldn’t cut it. Green is safe. But was it really? Blue is a mystery. Was that a trick?
“Ten seconds!” Lisa gasped.
Mark grabbed the green wire. He closed his eyes and cut it…
The timer stopped. They did it! They deactivated the bomb.
Everybody started cheering. They were safe. Mark took a deep breath.
“That was close!” Lisa laughed. “Next time, let’s have lunch instead.”
They walked outside. The sun was shining. The city was safe again.
